Who are your typical clients?

Most of our clients are normal people who find themselves charged for the first time without any prior criminal records. Since Mark Zinck only represents people on private retainers (no legal aid), his clients tend to be working professionals and students. We have represented people of all different backgrounds including physicians, lawyers, police officers, nurses, teachers, university professors, business owners, pharmacists, and other professionals. Most of our clients are charged with property offences (theft, fraud, mischief) or matters involving assault, threats (both domestic and non domestic), sexual assault, and child pornography.

Our clients are primarily concerned with the prospect of possibly getting a criminal record, problems with their immigration status, U.S. travel, and police background checks and information sharing causing employment and future employment problems.

What other services do you provide?

99% of our clients are ultimately able to avoid a criminal conviction (criminal record) and sentence. As they are being fingerprinted and having their information shared and disclosed to other third parties by the police, we also focus on providing expert services for issues relating to the charge itself, such as:
  1. Information on exactly how you can get your fingerprints and records destroyed;
  2. How to repress the release of police records relating to your arrest on specific employment and background checks;
  3. Ways to minimize problems travelling to the U.S. related to the charge information and record of arrest being stored in CPIC and other police databases;
  4. Information about potential immigration related issues: including work permits, PR, and citizenship applications;
  5. How to avoid and handle future questions from potential employers and law enforcement officials regarding the incident.

Even if your charge is ultimately dropped, it can still show up on certain employment background checks, and impact immigration, travel (including to the United States), and membership in professional societies. There are many ways to proactively avoid such problems and destroy records relating to the charge itself.

How many criminal cases does your lawyer handle?

Mark Zinck handles approximately 250 criminal defence cases per year the majority of which involve theft, fraud, possession of stolen property, mischief, assault, uttering threats, sexual assault, and child pornography.

How long will this process take?

For many types of charges, we are able to have the matter withdrawn or dropped at the first court appearance. Some cases, however, will take months or even years to resolve.

What are your fees?

Our goal is to have your case resolved (often dropped) as efficiently and easily as possible for you. We normally conduct initial consultations over the phone to determine the seriousness, time required, and likely outcome of your matter and quote you the fee over the phone. The fee will depend on how much time will be required to resolve your case. For cases that can be resolved without a trial, fees will normally range from $1200 - $8000. For cases that go to trial, fees may range from $10,000 to $100,000 depending on the nature of the charge.

We are successful in having 99%+ of our charges withdrawn or resolved without a criminal record and without having to go to trial.
